Today City Council tabled the 2021 Draft Budget. It is a tough year for budgeting, but I’m pleased that key commitments to the community are still being delivered (such as the resurfacing of St. Georges street!). Over the next month, the draft budget will be considered in detail by the various City committees. The draft budget will go before Council for approval on December 9th.
The pandemic has highlighted how important our outdoor spaces are. I’m excited that a proposed allocation of an additional $100,000 to each Councillor for their Cash-in-Lieu of Parkland funds has been included. This will help me implement much faster several of park improvement ideas you have highlighted. The City is also renewing its funding commitment to the Winter Trails Alliance which allows amazing community groups such as Ski Heritage East to maintain winter recreations trails for all to enjoy.
Draft Budget 2021 continues to focus on affordability for residents and businesses with a proposed three-per-cent tax increase – which amounts to an extra $115 for the average urban homeowner ($415,000 assessment).
