Last week, I had the opportunity to sit down with staff from the City’s Asset Management and Infrastructure Services teams to discuss upcoming projects and priorities for Orléans East-Cumberland. I’m excited to share several key infrastructure investments coming to our community this year — all aimed at improving our roads, parks, sidewalks, and public spaces. These upgrades are essential to keeping our neighbourhoods safe, accessible, and vibrant for everyone.

Projects under construction this Spring, Summer & Fall:
🚧 Cameron St – road resurfacing (Old Montreal Rd to Hwy 174)
🚧 Mathieu Way – road resurfacing
🚧 Vimont Ct – road resurfacing
🚧 Erik Czapnik Way – road resurfacing
🚧 Moffatt Dr – road resurfacing
🚧 Cassia Park – pathway repairs
🚧 Des Pionniers Park – new play equipment & asphalt pathway renewal
🚧 Wilkie Dr – new sidewalk (from Carrigan to Merkley East)
🚧 Ray Friel Complex – facility upgrades (wave pool system & changerooms)
🚧 Cumberland Village Heritage Museum – facility improvements
🚧 Culvert construction at 7 local sites
🚧 Northlands Dr – speed hump installation
🚧 Payette Dr at Prestwick Dr – Tactile Walking Surface Indicators installation

📢 As we receive more details about timelines and impacts for each project, I’ll be sure to keep you updated!

In addition to the construction projects taking place this year, I’m pleased to share that we’ve secured commitments from staff for several other key projects planned for the next few years, including:

🚧 Apollo Crater Park Pathway (design in 2025, construction in 2026)
🚧 Queenswood Ridge Park Pathway (design in 2025, construction in 2026)
🚧 Centrum Blvd – full sidewalk & road renewal (design in 2025, construction in 1-2 years)
🚧 Active Transportation Bridge at Trim over the HWY 174 (design in 2025, bridge is to be constructed as soon as 2026 pending funding)
🚧 Des Épinettes (between Cottonwood & Lafrance) – pedestrian safety upgrades
🚧 Road resurfacing on Taylor Creek Dr, Jeanne d’Arc North Blvd, Duford Dr, Old Montreal Rd, Lough Dr, Lookout Dr, Fieldown St, Durant Crt, Overdale Dr, Austin Ct, and Stoney Ln .

Have Your Say: Draft 2 of Ottawa’s New Zoning By-law is Here!

The City of Ottawa has released Draft 2 of the new Zoning By-law, a document that will shape the future of our city’s development. This updated draft, including detailed zoning provisions and 16 supporting documents, is now available for review on the City’s meeting agenda webpage.

A Joint Planning and Housing and Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee meeting will be held on Monday, March 31, where Councillors will consider the updated Draft 2 provisions, including potential options for several key policy issues:

  • Minimum parking rates for Villages
  • Maximum building height in Suburban N1 and N2 – Neighbourhood Zones
  • Conversion of the R4 – Residential Zone to N4 – Neighbourhood Zone
  • Building height transition framework

Join us for Public Engagement Events:
We hope you will join us June 2 at our In Person Workshop being held at Ben Franklin Place. We will also be hosting two virtual citywide open houses on May 29 and June 3. Further details on public events will be released shortly on the project’s engagement page.
