Conditions along the Ottawa River remain stable and are being closely monitored. Rainfall of 25–35 mm is forecast over several days this week, but is not expected to significantly impact current flood conditions.

A second peak remains possible. The City continues in Enhanced Operations, and the Emergency Coordination Centre (ECC) is actively coordinating response efforts.

Current water levels
Water levels peaked last week just below those seen in 2023 (slightly under 1-in-20 flood levels) and have been gradually receding since.

Residential impacts
Approximately 85 homes in West Carleton and Cumberland have sandbags in place.

The City continues to:

Today I turn 42.

Birthdays have a way of making you pause and take stock. This year, I’m doing that with a clear mind and a grateful heart.

The last two years have been a time of great personal growth for me. A few months ago, that growth led me to make the decision that alcohol no longer has a place in my life. Since then, I’ve been taking better care of my mind and body, getting to the gym four days a week, being more active, and making my health a real priority.

The difference has been profound. I…

Over the past few days, we’ve started to see water levels in the Cumberland area decline, which is encouraging. In the second half of this week alone, we saw about a 15 cm drop, with an additional few centimetres coming down overnight.

The short-term forecast is for that trend to continue, with a slow decline or levels holding around what we’ve seen over the past couple of days.

That said, more water is still making its way down from the upper watershed toward Carillon, so conditions remain dynamic and very dependent on what happens upstream.

Across the community, residents have…

Laura Dudas and I had the pleasure of joining the volunteers at the Roy Hobbs Seniors Centre for their appreciation lunch and tea earlier this week.

It was a wonderful reminder of just how much volunteerism matters. The time, care, and energy that these individuals give so generously is what keeps places like this thriving. It creates connection, combats isolation, and builds a real sense of belonging.

Seniors’ centres are more than just places to gather. They are vibrant hubs of community life, where friendships are formed, stories are shared, and people look out for one another. And none of…

This morning, I visited areas currently impacted by flooding and was encouraged to see that water levels are beginning to recede.

Over the last 48 hours, we’ve seen a reduction of about 15 cm, which is really encouraging.

I also want to share that the Cumberland Ferry reopened today at noon, which is another positive sign as conditions improve.

I had a good conversation with a hydrologist from the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority, who noted that while conditions remain fragile, the current temperature and precipitation forecasts are favourable and should support continued improvement. As always, things will depend on the…

I want to take a moment to recognize the Cumberland Panthers U14 team for the incredible work they put in today, filling sandbags at stations across Ward 1.

I’m genuinely impressed by their dedication to our community and the effort they showed throughout the day. Because of their hard work, residents can now visit sandbag stations, pick up what they need, and better protect their properties.

This is what community looks like. Neighbours stepping up for one another when it matters most.

Outstanding work, Panthers. Thank you.

Let’s talk infrastructure upgrades in Cumberland!

Cumberland is a special part of our community, with rural roads that connect neighbours, families, and local businesses every day. But many of these roads are original and for years, they have been in need of renewal.

At the beginning of this term of Council, when Cumberland joined Ward 1, there were very few resurfacing or major infrastructure projects forecasted in the near future. That needed to change.

Over the past few years, I made it a priority to bring attention to the condition of these roads, working closely with City staff and Council…

Today marks the 75th anniversary of Battle of Kapyong.

In April 1951, during the Korean War, Chinese forces launched a major offensive aimed at breaking through UN lines north of Seoul. The 2nd Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry held key defensive positions in the Kapyong Valley alongside allied units. Over two days of intense fighting, heavily outnumbered and under constant attack, they held their ground and prevented a breakthrough that could have changed the course of the campaign.

For their actions, 2 PPCLI was awarded the United States Presidential Unit Citation, one of the highest honours that can be…

Here in Orléans-East Cumberland, we’re fortunate to be surrounded by beautiful parks, waterways, and green spaces. Whether it’s reducing waste, planting trees, participating in community clean-ups, or simply spending time outdoors, every action helps make a difference.

Thank you to everyone in our community who continues to take steps, big and small, to care for our environment.

Citywide Street Sweeping Operations began in early April and will be coming to an end on May 31st. Our East End Roads team is continuing to work through neighbourhoods to ensure that all streets have been cleared within this timeline.

To date, they have completed all main and arterial roads in Ward 1 as well as residential streets in Queenswood Village, Queenswood Heights, and they are nearly finished Fallingbrook and Notting Gate. While there is still work to be done in Ward 1, crews are on track to for completing street sweeping operations by the end of May.
