Update from our Director of Roads Services | Mise à jour de notre Directrice du Services des routes et stationnement

Precipitation has turned to snow and residents can expect to see up to 10 cm of snow to fall by late Sunday night.

Due to the uncertain weather conditions, and the warmer temperatures, we WILL NOT be putting a Winter Weather Parking Ban in effect at this time. We will continue to monitor the conditions throughout the overnight hours and keep you up to date if the track of the weather event changes. We do however, always appreciate when cars are not parked on the road as it will help our teams complete their work more efficiently.

While it is important to take the situation seriously and to be prepared, the risk to Canadians and to Ottawa residents remains low.

Currently, there are no confirmed cases of novel coronavirus infections in Canada or involving Canadians overseas.

The best preparation I can do for the special Transit commission meeting at 2pm is continue to listen to you, our community and users of the public transit network.

I’ve also reached out to City of Ottawa Auditor General Ken Hughes to discuss OC Transpo scheduling. We meet next week to review the concerns, comments and frustrations you’ve shared with me.

I’ve cleared my schedule. I will attend the special transit commission meeting on Thursday. Enough is enough.

To deepen my understanding of your experiences and prepare for the meeting, I spent the afternoon/evening rush hour at Blair station to listen to your comments, ideas and feedback.

An update from OC Transpo | Une mise à jour d’OC Transpo:

In the morning, from 7:30 until 9:00 a.m., special buses will leave from Hurdman Station and from Tunney’s Pasture Station, will operate non-stop to downtown, and will drop off customers at bus stops on Albert Street (buses from Hurdman) and on Slater Street (buses from Tunney’s Pasture). If you get on the train at Blair station headed downtown, you will not be asked to transfer to the bus service at Hurdman.

CHEO

You may know that my wife and I had a baby girl, Libby, just a few months ago. After her delivery, Libby spent some time at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), and I can tell you first-hand the incredible difference CHEO makes in our community.

I was pleased to return to CHEO to join friends and colleagues, including Laura Dudas to unveil the new Minto Way Mural. This mural is a great reminder of the unwavering support Minto has shown for this community, and will be a wonderful way to welcome the patients and families, as well as the staff who work here.

Through initiatives like the Dream of a Lifetime Lottery, the CHEO For the Kids…

Une mise à jour de notre directrice des routes et du stationnement | An update from our director of roads and parking:

(Le français suit)

The City is waking up to a beautiful winter morning. Since 4 pm yesterday afternoon, we have seen approximately 15 cm of snow. We anticipate another 2cm more of light flurries throughout the day. As our staff will be working around the clock today and tonight, we expect a good commute tomorrow morning.

Weather Update

Approximately 15 cm of snow is already on the ground. The snow is light and fluffy and we anticipate an additional 2 cm of snow could fall this morning.

How Are We Responding?

Une mise à jour de notre directrice des routes et du stationnement | An update from our director of roads and parking:

We anticipate the snow to start falling more heavily in the coming hours, and to continue through the night. An accumulation of 10-15 cm is expected.

See Snow? Go Slow! Adjust your driving to the conditions. Ensure your vehicle roof, windows and lights are properly cleared of snow.

Snow is expected to start falling around 11:00 a.m. and will continue overnight, ending around midmorning on Sunday. The greatest accumulation is expected to be around 10 – 15 cms (depending on location) to fall through the overnight hours, with the possibility of another 2 – 5 cm before the snow comes to an end later Sunday morning.

During a snow event, it is not necessary…

I just got off the phone with OC Transpo. Here’s what we know:

Repairs to fix the power line system at St-Laurent Station are progressing. We do not have an ETA on service restoration at this time.

RTG/RTM is reporting that repair work is proceeding well and that they have not encountered any unforeseen issues.

The sequence of the repair work to be done is as follows:
· Remove the damaged equipment (nearing completion);
· Assemble the replacement wire system (currently underway);
· Install the replacement wire system;
· Re-energize the system; and
· Conduct numerous tests to confirm that the replacement is fully functional.

Once these steps…

Mise à jour | O-train | Update

This morning a train was stopped at St. Laurent Station due to an issue with the overhead power system. At this time, full service will not be restored in time for the afternoon peak commute. R1 bus replacement service has been implemented.

R1 bus service from Hurdman to Blair will continue throughout the afternoon peak period. Significant delays will occur. Customers travelling to the east end should take a train to Hurdman Station and transfer to an R1 replacement bus.

Some of the R1 buses to Blair Station will skip Tremblay and Cyrville Stations in order to get customers to St-Laurent and Blair faster—these R1 “express” trips will be identified on the front of the bus and by OC Transpo staff on the bus platforms
